Happy New Year!

I know it was a difficult year for many people. But I know too there were so many wonderful events. Some huge, but often the best were tiny little moments.

My friend Cheryl and I were talking about that at breakfast a couple days ago. About a moment sitting on a tractor, going through an orchard - and suddenly feeling completely at peace.

There were so many huge moments in our 2010. All unforgettable. And so many tiny moments of peace and joy. Often in the oddest places. Unbidden, undemanded, unplanned. Just given.

I wish you many of those moments in 2011.

Michael joins me in thanking you for your company, your good wishes propping us up when we faltered, your humour and courage. Your presence in our lives. Your celebrations when things went well this past year. And your sympathy when it didn't. How kind you are.

And now the great adventure begins again! Another year.

Blessings to you. And Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you and Michael, Louise! I wish you much joy and peace in 2011. I know I'll have some great reading because you have a new book coming out in the fall. Huzzah!! Someone asked me the other day who my favorite author was and my immediate answer - with no thought at all - Louise Penny. It's very true. Thank you so much for enriching my life through the gorgeous stories that you tell. I am forever grateful. 2010 was a tough year, but it definitely had some silver linings.

Hello Louise, A few minutes ago I have finished reading your book #3, The Cruellest Month, that also accompanied me on my Christmas trip to Prague and back, and helped me deal better with the inevitable delays. Discovering your books and rediscovering you as a person belong to the highlight of the year 2010 for me. I am grateful for that and thank you very much.

Not to forget, your January Newsletter was the first email that I have read this morning and I hope that it will set the tone for the new year. Thanks for that as well.

When I read the very positive reviews for Bury Your Dead where many called it your best book ever, I was wondering whether we were not asking for too much. Now after having read and thoroughly enjoyed your first 3 books, I understand. They are all part of an evolving and very live series that grows naturally every year as the author and all the readers.

All the best in 2011 to you, Michael and everyone else connected.

My partner and I just started reading your novels about a month ago. They have added to our simple pleasures - a good book! Thank you and Happy New Year.

And a Happy, healthy, New year to both of you, and Trudy, and Lucy, and Danny, and everyone else we gotten to know through you, and my fellow bloggers. Your newsletter brought tears to my eyes. Your books are a gift to us, as are you yourself. I once worked in a converted monastery (to a drug and alcohol residential treatment center), and it was very moving to come across a reminder of its original use. I loved your description of the monastery, and the Gregorian chants. I have some on recordings of them, and they bring so much quiet. Life is a strange journey; I'm so glad I picked up that first copy of "Still Life." What great pleasure you have brought me.

I had to let you know that I had recommended your books to a young lady who has indured numerous bouts of experimental cancer treatments. Despite being labelled "terminal", she fights on, and is a few years past any doctors prediction. She loves your writing and loves the characters that come alive in her head. I just thought you would like to know how much your writing means to your readers for many reasons. To my younger friend Amy, it allows her to escape her reality for a time.
Happy New Year to you and yours! We await the next installment.

Thank you so much for your beautiful books. I'm just beginning to read "Bury your Dead". I've read all of your books - so I know this will be a delight as well. I was born in Thunder Bay and raised in an isolated northern Ontario community where many people spoke French. (Alas, not myself). It could have been Three Pines. Though we didn't have anyone as lovely as Inspector Gamache who I think I'm just a little in love with. Good thing he only exists on my page. Happy New Year! Sincerely, Barb.

A very Happy New Year to you and Michael and many thanks for your wonderful books and your blog. I look forward to reading it each day and getting to know you through them. Give Trudy a big hug for me. We likewise have a lovely Golden Retriever named Maeve and hug her every day for all the joy she has brought to our lives.
