Writing/editing went well yesterday on Book 9. Long day. Started at 8am and finally was satisfied with the chapter at 5:30. Got up all creaky from the chair. But I'm happy. Phew.

We're in Montreal now, for the funeral tomorrow of our friend Ted Wilson. Lovely man, married to a wonderful and dynamic woman, also our good friend - Sandra.
Sad time - but he was so loved and it's a chance to celebrate a terrific life.

Thank you for writing The Beautiful Mystery. AS I read it, I could hear the Gregorian chants. I thoroughly enjoyed this book because I could use both of my passions at the same time (music and reading)! I began reading your books in May 2012 and have devoured them. I took the first 7 books out from the public library, but, this one I bought and it is on my IPad so I can enjoy it again and again. As a Canadian myself, your books have filled a void for me in good Canadian mystery writing. Your character development is wonderful. Having been in Quebec City for a holiday in July, this year, I saw parts of the City with new eyes. I can't wait for the next book.
I have enjoyed all your books so much that I am always a little sad when I finish the last one and know I have to wait a year to read another of your books. I finished The Beautiful Mystery this morning at 2:00. You have such a lovely style of writing...almost poetry, and I've enjoyed your previous books so much, and have recommended them to many fellow readers. However, I was SO disappointed in the story of Beautiful Mystery, particularly the ending. I will probably read the next book, but I feel as though I am being manipulated into doing so. I finally went to sleep this morning feeling very unsatisfied. Diane

The Beautiful Mystery is amazing. I would love to know what inspired you to write such a different plot. I'm motivated now to research Gregorian chants. Like the writer above, I can't wait to know if Jean-Guy will come back from the dark side.

Love all the books - but how can you leave Jean-Guy in such a position - I am so sad. The next book had better come quickly I am in purgatory.
However, because of this book, I decided to use Gregorian chant for one of the songs for my school's Advent liturgy in December.
Just finished listening to The Beautiful Mystery on audio, and had to go back to book 1 to see how we ended up there. I enjoyed this book very much. The narrator is wonderful, and the writing is rich and engaging. I think it's rare to find a book this far into a series that can stand alone for a new reader. Thanks for your work.

Your books are so evocative of places and people -- so glad to see that the role of Gamache has been cast -- wonderful choice. Have been watching "Land Girls" and here he is as a different character than Linley. Who will be playing Beauvoir and Lacoste?

I grew up on the Island of Montreal and went to summer camp at Owl's Head, so the pictures bring back many memories. Including winter trips to Carnival in Q.C. Would love to see more.

Next they add another user into the web application with a username and password of their choosing. After the exploit has successfully ran, the attacker logs into the blog by using firefox and the credentials which they set. The attacker has now been granted additional features, of which, one is the ability to upload files. This feature is meant for images only, however, the attacker opts to try and use "Pentest Monkey's PHP reserve shell", and see if it is disallowed (as it's not a valid image). After making a copy of the shell, updating it so it contains the attackers IP address, they then try and upload the shell. The blog forwards them back to the homepage and doesn't give any feedback if the upload was successful or if it failed. When dirb was scanned the /blog/ folder, it displayed the server contained a folder called "/images". As the attacker attempted to upload an image, they navigated to the folder. They discover that the upload appeared to be successful as there is a matching filename and size displayed. The attacker can test to see if the upload really was successful by running the shell. For the shell to correctly work there needs to be a listener waiting on the IP address and port which it was configured with. The attacker used their IP address, so they set up "netcat" locally to listen on TCP port "1234" to match the shell. Now when someone "views" the shell page on the target web server, it causes the PHP code to be executed, creating a connection from the target to the attacker, then afterwards execute a shell program to be interacted with. The result being the attacker has gained an interact shell on the target, allowing them to execute commands remotely.
