Beautiful, perfectly blue skies - temps 26
Spent the whole day - except for walking to Nick's for breakfast - writing. Just finished - quarter to seven this evening. And finished this draft!
right now I don't really have an opinion - more a wild and passionate prayer it's good. Am pretty tired. But thrilled to be done. Yippee.
And Michael has finished his second draft! Such fun to sit over breakfasts and talk about our books. I, as you might expect, am immense help in trying to cure childhood cancers for his book. He, though, has discovered a vast, untapped and apparently limitless talent for murder. Very cunning my, this Michael.
And today we're both finished! have just ordered a pizza. Will eat it on the bed while watching Entourage on dvd.
Life is good, life is great. Back to Sutton tomorrow. have decided to not try to get another draft in before we leave for an event in Stratford, Ontario next week - then out to the Sunshine Coast Literary Festival right after that. I'll have the manuscript printed and bound, and will read it while out there.
For now we're just luxuriating in finishing our writing!!! Thanks for holding our hands through all this! Enjoy the pizza!

Greenwood
mainly sunny, warm, temps 27
A perfect day...just wonderful. We arrived in Montreal about 9:30 last night. Had breakfast this morning at Nick's, then hopped in the car (top down) and zipped off to Hudson. What a beautiful community. All sorts of gorgeous homes, stone and clapboard...not large (though there is one dreadful eyesore - a kind of trophy home that looks, as prince charles would say, like a carbunkle on the face of Hudson.) I arrived a little early and had a chance to drive around a bit...then called Michael and told him I'd arrived, and planned to buy a home, and he was welcome to join me.
There was a pause. Then he started to laugh.
If we didn't love our home and community in Sutton so much I could definitely see us in Hudson. simply beautiful, and peaceful.
The event was sponsored by the Quebec Writer's Federation, and co-hosted by the Greenwood Centre for living, which is in the Greenwood home...the oldest home in the community - 1700's....with later additions. The volunteers and organizers for the local literary festival called Storyfest hosted a lunch before the event on the verandah of the home, overlooking the lake. It was a warm, sunny day...and the setting was magical. Then we walked the five minutes over to St. Mary's Church hall for the event. A nice turnout - the place was filled. Then after I spoke and did a reading and answered questions we all went back to Greenwood, and had a garden party...where I signed books. Then drove back to Montreal...about 45 minutes.
Nice to get home to Michael.
Poor guy has a back ache. It's been a while since his back has gone out...so when I get back we both did exercises on the floor. A whole lot of groaning, I'll tell ya. Fingers crossed it gets all better.
Now - to follow up on some conversations happening on the comments sections - I'd be curious to hear which actor, if any, come to mind for Gamache - if there was a TV series or movie.
Back to Sutton tomorrow. We've ordered pizzas for dinner tomorrow, will take them down.

What's that nice broach on your shoulder, Audi?
sunny, hot, beautiful
stunning summer day - in mid-September. An unexpected gift for this family reunion. Right now I'm (obviously) sitting at the computer, writing to you. I'm in the hotel room and the family's sitting around, some reading, some snacking on Nachos, most watching the Ryder Cup on television. We got a suite - as a personal indulgence (not for the first time, as Michael will readily tell you!). But it's turned out to be a fantastic choice. It's become the Grand Central Station for the family reunion - which we love.
It's wonderful to be with people we're so totally comfortable with. I just stepped out of a shower, and got in to my flannel pajamas, and didn't care what anyone thought. (Happily they were too riveted on the golf to care).
We're having a great time. Breakfast this morning downstairs at the hotel buffet. I remember loving buffets as a kid! it was such a treat. And it was fun to see Brian and Charlie feeling the same way. So excited by ordering fresh waffles, and watching the man make them - or an omelette. It was interesting to see what they chose.
Each had a huge waffle. Brian added a warm, sticky, cinnamon bun and bacon. Surprisingly, both also had big bowls of fruit.
We all split up after that. Uncle Rob and Sarah took Brian and Charlie to a Blue Jays baseball game, while Michael, Doug and I drove to the kids home to walk the dog and get Charlie's hockey gear.
We've just had a wonderful time together. Great, relaxed meals. Lots of kidding, a bird pooped on Audi, which we'll make sure she never forgets.
We've just ordered a pizza (or three). We were going to go out for dinner again, but realized we'd have a much more relaxed time just ordering in and enjoying ourselves. Never mind save about 200 dollars! We're cheap. But you don't want to say 'Cheap' around Audi or she'll think it's another bird.
Har dee har har.
Driving back to Montreal tomorrow. having dinner with friends. Will try to blog, but probably won't get a chance. Hope you've enjoyed the family reunion. So far, no tears. We'll see what happens when the anchovie, black olive and pepper pizza arrives.
